History

Founded in 1945, Dolomitas del Norte S.A. began its activity by exploiting a Dolomite deposit in Carranza (Bizkaia), thus supplying the nearby iron and steel industry. Around 1985 the company, which already had 4 production centres (Carranza, Montehano, Chilches and Santullan), became part of Calcinor. After inaugurating in 2001 a new centre in Bueras (Cantabria) and after the recent investments made there, adding new innovative processes, Dolomitas del Norte S.A. has become one of the main producers of dolomite sinter in Europe.

Products

DOLOMITAS DEL NORTE S.A. specialises in the manufacture of magnesium carbonates, calcined dolomites and refractory materials. It has a very high quality, low flux dolomite mineral resource and is one of the leading producers of dolomite sinter.

Applications

Dolomite, produced by Dolomitas del Norte S.A. in its different specifications, is a material that plays an important role in the iron and steel sector, both for its purifying action on steels and for its protective action on refractory linings or for its use in the manufacture of refractories. It is as well used in agriculture as a soil conditioner and in the water treatment sector, among others.¡

Corporate responsability

In accordance with its growth policy, Dolomitas del Norte S.A. has modernised and concentrated its facilities at the Bueras plant, increasing its production capacity and developing new refractory products, becoming one of the main producers of dolomite sinter in Europe.
